Submissions

Slippage Lit is an international literary magazine devoted to publishing experimental and strange works of fiction, poetry and non-fiction.

Submissions

As writers and fans of literature, we realise that every writer has a work or two that they know is of high quality, but is also a little out there (more than literary magazine content usually is) or not in the style of the time.

That’s the stuff we want you to submit to us!

At Slippage Lit we don’t want our contributors to feel restricted by form or genre, as such we don’t distinguish submissions by genre. We want your writing that slips between poetry and fiction, weaves together more than one genre. Have you written a memoir in verse? Fantastic, we want it! Have you written a science-fiction sonnet? Awesome, send it our way! Have you written a Horror Comedy that will have us in hysterics? That sounds like something we would like! Is what you’ve written like none of these examples, and like nothing else out there? Submit it to us!

Guidelines

Failure to follow these guidelines will result in your work going unread.

We will respond to all submissions as quickly as we can. At most it will take us 4 months to respond, but usually much sooner than that. If you haven’t heard back from us within 4 months, feel free to query us about the status of your submission.

We have three submission categories distinguished by word count. We have a <500 words category, a <2000 words category and a <5000 words category.

  • Simultaneous submissions are okay, but please let us know immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.

Visual Art Submissions

  • Please put: VISUAL ART SUBMISSION in the subject line of your e-mail.

  • Send AT LEAST four images. Keep in mind that one image will be used for the cover, and the other three will accompany the works in the three categories. (See previous issues for examples.)

  • Please send images in either .png or .tiff format.

  • Feel free to choose whatever format/style/theme/story you wish for your visual art. Just as we allow writers to submit their works independent of other written works in the magazine, we encourage visual artists to create a self-contained experience, independent of other content in the magazine. (Or not, that’s also cool.)

Be aware that submissions may be accepted on the provision of edits. If you are unwilling to enter into an editorial arrangement with Slippage Lit, you need not submit.

All submissions should be sent to submissions@slippagelit.com. Please include a brief cover letter in the body of the email. All submissions should be attached to the email as a Word Document.

Payment
At this point in time we are regretfully unable to pay our contributors in anything more than our undying appreciation and support. We will promote your work, both those published in Slippage Lit and those published elsewhere, on our social media platforms. But if you are ever in town, beers are on us!

By submitting to Slippage Lit you are agreeing to grant us First Electronic Rights if accepted. Upon publication all rights revert to the author. If your work is published subsequently we would appreciate an acknowledgement of Slippage Lit being the first place it appeared
